Product Design & Development Service For Connectivity Solutions

We’re told we are trusted by the customers we serve because we’re responsive, agile and honest. Being part of the Daro Group, we access investment and services that help us to deliver excellence as standard.

Daro Connectivity has an advantage of being able to draw on the expertise of the Daro Manufacturing Services team when considering product design solutions like distribution frames, wall enclosures, cabinets and patch panels which require sheet metal fabrication and production. Assembly and integration of the final product or solution is undertaken by Daro Connectivity’s skilled assembly team.

An example of this is a design for a new fibre splice and storage cassette for CommScope for one of their FTTH products. Subsequently we were asked to further update the product design to double the connectivity capacity of the original in order to meet the requirements of their end customer.

Product Design and
Development Process

Our product development process combines 2D, concept modelling and final designs using 3D parametric computer aided design (CAD) software. Voice of the customer information is captured and shared using popular software packages at regular stakeholder review stages. This ensures we have captured the key requirements and are delivering to the customer expectation.

If you need a new product, want to achieve cost savings from a redesign or your design requires the integration of various connectivity
products we’d be delighted to help.

1. Specification
The specification stage helps us have a comprehensive understanding of your requirements. In consultation with you, we’ll look at the key must-have criteria, existing marketplace and industry standards which are intrinsic to the success of the final product or solution. The specification is agreed before the project moves forward.
2. Concept Design
Includes product examples, materials and finishes typically as 3D rendered images and concept models based upon the framework requirements defined in the specification. Our experts are on hand to offer advice on materials to optimise performance whilst considering efficiencies and production methods that give you best value.
3. Proposal
We provide an indication of initial budgetary costs, depending upon your requirements. These costs may include engineering time and external testing to the meet the agreed specification, which helps to avoid potential additional unforeseen costs. This gives you full visibility of the project timescale from concept design, agreed design, pre-production, test validation and production.
4. Feasibility
Knowing your goals are achievable gives you confidence in your design project and allows us to finalise costings
5. Mechanical Design
Using the latest 3D modelling software means that we can produce detailed mechanical design for cabinets, patch panels, wall enclosures, closures, special fasteners and injection moulded fibre management components. Working with our supply chain we can also design integrated solutions that are assembled by our internal production assembly team. Utilising lean manufacturing processes means that you can be assured your product will be easily, sustainably, economically and consistently manufactured.
6. Prototyping
We can quickly produce prototypes. The prototyping stage gives you visibility of our lean processes for efficient material usage and bill of materials (BOM).
7. Pre-production
A small batch of products is produced in this final stage so that any production issues are eliminated, and the standard build documentation created for production assembly is verified and finalised.
8. Approvals
Functional requirements for product approval are identified within the agreed specification; formalised at the project outset. At this stage we already will have an idea on whether testing can be undertaken internally and or whether we need to work with an industry recognised external test facility for certification.
9. Verification
Verification at each stage of the design process is a vital part of our commitment to excellence

Our adoption of lean manufacturing processes puts eliminating waste at the heart of what we do. Working with recycled materials also helps to reduce costs. Everything that can be recycled is recycled and, in some cases, such as metal and alloys, this is 100%. Recycling as much of our own waste materials is part of our journey towards achieving ISO 14001.
